Artist in Residence

I just finished my first Artist in Residence with North Ogden Elementary. It was such a success and wonderful experience. I worked with each grade to paint a huge 78″x 48″ canvas. I took a photograph, made a grid on it and then made a grid on the canvas to match. Each student got one  6″ x 6″ square to paint in; I gave them a piece of the photograph they then tried to make their square match the square I gave them. It was fun to see the ownership and pride the students got when they where finished. I worked with grades 1st – 6th and each grade got their own painting. There were 104 squares on each painting; teachers also had a chance to paint a square with their grade — it was great. The school will hang these paintings as part of a permanent collection. I worked with the 4 kindergarten classes on a collective abstract piece where they used shapes and colors to create an original work of art. Check out the photo to see the grades’ projects.
